An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Fellowship Responsibly

(Proverbs 1:16 KJV)  For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

The first chapter in Proverbs.

One of the first themes of Proverbs.

In a book that is mainly one-verse proverbs we are in our sixth verse on a theme.

It must be important.  Since it is also the first day in the year, how about a quick review.

Be careful whom you pick for friends.  Avoid people who seek out “evil” (7451b).  Stay away from groups that are quick to “shed” (8210) “blood” (1818).

This would seem to be obvious, but God feels we need to be reminded.  We are to flee from the devil, they run toward him.

So?  Look around you.  Who are your friends?  What kind of company do you seek out?  Are they always trying to adjust you so that you fit into their view of the world?  You know how the alcohol industry is always trying to tell you to drink responsibly?  Fellowship responsibly.

I think there are several vesrions out there of "Show me his friends and I'll show you the man."

I don't remember hearing that one before, but at my age there are many things I don't remember.

Thanks.

Grace and peace.
