This is not a pretty picture. It is a realistic picture, because it demonstrates the character of dogs. It illustrates for us why the dog is not thought of as a noble creature in the Middle East. It does not explain why the dog has become “man’s best friend” in the West. Didn’t the shepherds of Israel understand that a dog could be trained to guard and guide?
Why the change?
I don’t know. Maybe you do. What I do know is that this reminds us that the despised can become the useful. The vomit-eating dog can become the guard of the flock. By extension the “fool” (3684) can become the child of God. It isn’t a guarantee. It doesn’t even seem likely. It is called redemption. Remember what Jesus said,
(Mark 2:17 KJV) When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. So? How is your day going? How is your life going? Are you still on the level of the rejected dog or have you opened your heart so that the Good Shepherd can turn you into a sheep dog. I hope the picture is pretty.

I've literally seen dogs return to their vomit. I suspect it's a survival urge from their wolf genes, not to waste valuable protein. Our first litle Dachshund would avoid such things at all costs. She even made wide bypasses around things that other dogs would roll in. Our second one isn't so prissy, but she's doesn't want to be around vomit, either.
I remember that we had to keep our last dog away from the cat's litter box when she was a puppy and she would clean up the cat's vomit. She outgrew both but it was nice to have a floor cleaner for a time.
Grace and peace.
