An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Sorry, PETA

(Proverbs 27:26 KJV)  The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.

God put mankind in charge.  I know that a lot of animal lovers have trouble with that, you know, the whales are our brothers and all that.  That is fine for the pagans but ignores the Biblical hierarchy of creation.  It is clear.
(Genesis 1:26 KJV)  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
I can’t think of any place in the Bible that deals with animals as pets.  They are to be herded, sheared, milked, eaten and sacrificed.

I also can’t think of any passage that forbids pets.  As in many parts of our lives the point is to not make anything but God into a god.  Keep things in perspective.  Organizations like PETA and the Sierra Club might have some decent concerns hidden in their midst but they tend to become worshipers of the creation and not the Creator.

So?  Beware.  Embrace wisdom.  Follow God’s priorities, not those of the politically correct and politically powerful.  Blessings.  Now go take your dog for a walk, you need the exercise.

People always get in trouble for worshiping the creation rather than the creator. I'm sure there is greater wisdom in all of this that would apply when you use the Bible as a collection of metaphorical stories but I really can't think philosophically-or even spell correctly right now. Not enough coffee and I should be working on my devotion for Church and not wandering around the internet.

I would think that farm work would allow a lot of time for thinking deep thoughts. But when I dwell on that a little, you probably need to pay just enough attention to keep you from real meditation. Oh, well.

Grace and peace.
