An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Garden Variety Sin

(Proverbs 22:8 KJV)  He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

Sinners “reap” (7114b) “vanity” (205).  This seems to complete a circle.  We start with a sinful nature, built in.  When we continue to feed it by sinful actions our personality becomes ever more self centered and vain.

But we live in denial.

And it is getting worse.

One of the lessons of life that is not being taught in school is cause and effect.  I don’t know how many times I have sat with parents and they tell us that the only thing they expect from the child in question is that they do their school work.  They don’t demand chores or any other responsible behavior.  They bring home bad grades.  Nothing changes.  They wonder why.  If you plant sloth you reap excuses.

So?  What are you planting?  What do you expect to reap.  Too many people want to plant cherry tomatoes and reap beefsteak.  It doesn’t work that way in the garden, the home or eternity.

We already have at least one generation out there wondering why the world isn't changing to suit their desires. They're raising kids now.

Or the grandparents who messed up the children are now raising the grandchildren. Maybe they will do better the second time around.

Grace and peace.
