An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Unisex, Kinda

(Proverbs 6:20 KJV)  My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Verses like this make me believe that the many statements concerning fathers have a parallel truth involving mothers.  This form is fairly common in Proverbs.

One of the things that is hard for some to understand is the seeming paradox of a patriarchal society which gives women a place of honor.  The Bible teaches that women have a worth and a dignity that should be acknowledged.  In ancient cultures the Jews gave their women more freedom than the surrounding cultures.  It is a part of our belief.  Women have the image of God just like men.
(Genesis 1:27 KJV)  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And in the New Testament we see this repeated and also see it extended.
(Galatians 3:28 KJV)  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
So?  Treat both men and women with dignity.  It is part of who we are and who they are.
