An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Bind or Sever

(Proverbs 6:21 KJV)  Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

Free will and accountability for our actions are everywhere in the Bible.  Some say we don’t have free will but somehow we are responsible for our sins at the same time.  I don’t see the logic but I agree with the conclusion.  We make a choice to “bind” (7194) the things of God to our “heart” (3820).

Actually we make continual choices to bind.  This is not a one time decision.  It is not just a matter of clearly spiritual issues.  It involves things like courtesy, fashion choices, foods, friends and short cuts.  It takes us down the path of taking naps, leisure activities and returning borrowed items.  Every choice we make either binds or severs.

So?  In the next few minutes you will need to make a choice.  Make it carefully.  Imagine God standing behind you and waiting to see what you do.  Does that make you nervous?  Good.
