An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Fringe Benefits

(Proverbs 21:20 KJV)  There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.

Let me give you a general principle based on observation.  Countries that are culturally Christian are wealthier than non-Christian countries.  Protestant countries are wealthier than Roman Catholic or Orthodox countries.  I don’t know if this is universal.  I have not done a scientific study.  It is just an observation.

Why?

It is not a matter of natural resources.  It is not a matter of intelligence.  So what is it?  It has to do with having a resource pool of wisdom that comes from a fear of the Lord.  This is not to say that a majority of these people are believers or practice what they believe.  A general acknowledgment of certain values seemed to do the trick.

So?  If it applies to cultures then why would it not apply to individuals and families?  I am not talking about a get rich scheme.  I am talking about a life where your needs are met.  It seems to be a fringe benefit of following the Living God.
