(Proverbs 25:7 KJV) For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
As Voltaire said, “Common sense is not so common.” Of course he said it in French. Of course I had to Google it to find that out. And of course I usually disagree with Voltaire, or was it Rousseau? Although I sometimes find the Bible hard to accept, I don’t disagree with it. This verse is reminding us that if we would be a little more humble and a little less assuming, we would not get slapped down so much.
One way to find out who your friends really are is to assert yourself when they are in front of other people. You will find out quickly how you rate on their scale of importance. This is reminding us it is less painful to be called out of the pack than to be sent packing.
So? Unless you have the responsibility to stand up for someone else, be content with a rear seat. Think of it as home-made Italian dressing. Eventually things will find their right order.

Wise words.
And like many, hard to be consistent living.
Grace and peace.
