(Proverbs 23:26 KJV) My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
Is it possible to be used by God if we are unwilling servants? I would say “yes” based on such things as the life of Jonah. He was given a clear word, ran away, repented and fulfilled his mission, and then was unhappy with the success. I would say that he did not “give” (5414) his “heart” (3820) because he did not “observe” (5341) God’s desire. The NASB is based on another reading which says with “delight” (7521).
God demands obedience. He also expects the obedience to come with joy, not with resignation. Does disobedience effect our eternity? Yes, beyond a doubt. Does a bad attitude stand in our way of God’s eternal blessings? I tend to think so.
So? Attitude check time. God can help us with our attitudes but only if we acknowledge the problem. It is hard to convince someone to lose weight if they think they are skinny.
