(Proverbs 3:25 KJV) Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
Can we assume from this that the “wicked” (7563) actually “comes” (935) and is not headed off at the pass? I am not sure I like that but it is how the words go.
A key word here is “when” (3588). It is always interesting to see how a common word like this is translated. In the KJV it is used 1129 times. It is translated “because” 460 times, “when” 245 times, “surely” 58 times but “if” only 166 times. There are a slew of other translations much less frequent. It would seem that the preponderance of translations speak of a definite expectation.
So? Badness will come your way. It may stop right in front of you and stare you in the eye. It is going to happen. You may have a moment of panic but when your brain takes over and your memory kicks in, remember that God has promised to be there for you. I hope it isn’t today.
