An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Truth or Trendy

(Proverbs 1:1 KJV)  The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

The “proverbs” (4912) in this section are attributed to Solomon.  We often put all proverbs into an envelope and consider them all the same.  When I Googled “proverbs” I got one site that said it had 213 Proverbs that all English speaking people would know.  It gave me a chance to pull up a random list of ten.  None of them were from the Bible.  The first?  “Boys will be boys.”  Now that is powerful.

Keep in mind that the words we see in the Bible are often used in ways that do not support the truth or teaching found in the Word of God.  Just because something is called a proverb does not mean that it contains wisdom.

So?  Consider the source.  Examine the context.  Think about the logical development.  Seek truth not trendy.

I think the remainder of that saying goes "and sometimes men will be boys, as well." We've certainly evidence of that in Washington and Hollywood.

I never even thought that the site would edit something as basic as a proverb. You can't trust anything in this day and age.

Grace and peace.
