(Proverbs 26:20 KJV) Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
Some “fire” (784) is more stubborn than others. I don’t know how many times I have struggled to let someone have the last word, hoping that they will drop the mouth and get on with the task. Usually it does not work right away. They keep coming up with another comment to generate a response. Eventually it dies down.
This is more like a camp fire than a match. When we would spend time in the mountains one of the high points was the evening fire. There would come a point that we would stop putting on wood. The flames would eventually shrink until you had a bed of coals. Even then there would be occasional tongues that would sneak out. The coals could be all buried but even then I know that all I would need to do to get back the blaze was throw in a faggot and stir.
So? It is really hard but we need to let things die if we ever want to get any sleep.

When I was teaching I would give the kids a long list of meanings but I doubt if it stuck.
