An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Tribal Wisdom

(Pro 29:15 KJV) The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

In looking at the definition of “rod” (7626) I notice that one of the possible translations is “tribe”.  That set my mind off on a tangent about what is being taught in this verse.  If you substitute in the translation it starts off,

“The tribe and reproof give wisdom.”

In spite of all the race baiting politics going on in America to divide us based on ethnic and economic lines we are still a society that is non-tribal.  My suggestion here is that the body of Christ is our tribe.  They are the ones we are to listen to and relate to.  The example of older believers should be a large part of out foundation.

So?  The real church should be showing us the way and getting in our face when we don’t listen.  You don’t need to talk to the psychologist, you need to listen to the saints.

Amen. I've always noticed that Psychologists and especially psychiatrists are the kookiest people around.

I only know one actual psychologist and based on that I would say your stereotype is correct.
