(Pro 2:22 KJV) But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
I have a friend who is really into eschatology. He thinks the most important thing to understand is the end times and the place of Israel in God’s plan. One of the central points he keeps making is that God promised the nation of Israel the land. He promised it forever. Thus they would be exiled and scattered around the world but in the end they would return.
I think that is part of what is being expressed here. The NASB talks about the “land” (776) and here the KJV uses “earth”. Both translations move back and forth between the two at will. This starts as a reminder to Israel that their tie to the Promised Land depends on their faithfulness. There must be a way that translates to Gentile believers also. Now you apply it will depend on your other points of doctrine.
So? Righteous living makes a difference, now and forever.
