Accurate or Acceptable

(Pro 2:1 KJV) My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

This is a good place to check and see if your translation is concerned with being accurate or being culturally appropriate.  Does your Bible read “My son” or “My child”?  The word in the Hebrew is [ben] (1121) which is clearly not generic.  It is specific. 

This is important because if the translators are going to be true to the truth, they need to respect the right of God to say what He means, not what their sociology professor wants Him to mean.  There are places where translating this as “child” might be appropriate but when you have Solomon addressing his male child, it is not one of them.  If you are not mature enough to get past the mind set of gender studies then you need to spend a bit more time in prayer to the Father.

So?  All translations are not equal.  It is hard enough to find and understand truth without scholars substituting their wisdom for the words of the Almighty.
