An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Wanderful

(Pro 27:8 KJV)  As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

This is a word picture that does not automatically resonate with me.  Of course birds “wander” (5074).  How else do you expect them to find the food they need?  If you were applying the term to people this could involve going off to work, shopping or visiting friends but that is not the sense of the Hebrew.  One of the translations it to flee, to run away or be chased away.

I think one of the reasons that families fall apart is because the “man” (376) does not want to be responsible or has come to a place where he can’t take any more.  One could be caused by the other.  When Proverbs uses the word “man” you need to look a little deeper.  Sometimes you notice the word is in italics.  That means it is not in the Hebrew, thus when the Hebrew says “evil” the translators add “man” in what they think will clarify.  Or they might put “man” instead of “soul”.

So?  Christians are expected to be responsible.  God expects it and friends and family should be able to depend on it.
