(Pro 3:5 Brenton) Trust in God with all thine heart; and be not exalted in thine own wisdom.
The Brenton translation has an interesting way of putting this. It talks about exalting your own wisdom. That goes a bit further than leaning. It adds a whole new dimension to our foolishness. It points out that we often get things wrong and then crow about it.
Humility is a hard road to follow. It is hard to admit we are wrong. It is even harder to make that admission after a long term investment in being wrong. In some ways the longer we refuse to admit we are sinners and the more we “exalt” ourselves the less likely it is we will respond.
So? If there is something that needs repentance, it might be a good idea to think about it now. It will never get any easier and might become insurmountable.
