(Psa 115:17-8 KJV) The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence. But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.
(Proverbs 2 also read)
I come across people who claim the Jews did not believe in what we would call “heaven”. That word is not the best even for the New Testament but I believe that I keep seeing places that indicate they did believe that the afterlife was more than drifting through a place of darkness. This is one of them.
You see a contrast between this verse and the last. In the previous verse it clearly talks about the dead, then the focus switches to the righteous. They will be able to “bless” (1288) the Lord “forever” (5769). This is a frequent word that the NASB translates “forever” 136x, “everlasting” 110x and “perpetual” 29x.
So? Eternity is not just a promise that appears in the New Testament. It is throughout scripture.
