An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Equal Access

(Pro 26:7 KJV)  The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

This verse seems very unkind, but it is not a mocking of the handicapped.  At least it is not mocking the physically handicapped.  It is in a sense, it is mocking of the morally and mentally handicapped.  Some people reject the truth.  That means that they are “lame”.  It means that they’re not capable of walking in an upright manner with a regular rhythm and good balance.

Truth still exists.  In this case, the truth is wrapped up in a “parable.  There is no lacking in knowing what is right and wrong, and knowing what is moral and immoral.  People who complain they can’t know what is right are like people who go to a church potluck and say there’s nothing good to eat or someone who opens the refrigerator and claims there’s nothing at all to eat.  Or it’s like a woman who might have a closet full of clothes, but says she has nothing to wear.

It’s not that there is no truth it’s just that it is truth they don’t want.

So?  These people are called fools.  One of the reasons that we are looking at Proverbs is so that you, and I, can avoid being fools.  Consider the truth it is offered to you.
