An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

OT God at Work

(Psa 57:1 KJV)  To the chief Musician, Altaschith, Michtam of David, when he fled from Saul in the cave. Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.

(Proverbs 22 also read)

I will concede that Yahweh has moments where He applies His wrath and seeks to correct the sin and debauchery in the world.  He is capable of tremendous violence, and He is one who should be feared in the phobic sense.

Yet that is only the side of God that God haters want to emphasize.  To those who do not spit in His face openly or quietly live in rebellion and rejection, He is the picture of mercy and refuge.  Notice those two words here in the verse.  This is not my favorite word for mercy, but it is very common in the Old Testament.  To those who are faithful, to those who are doing their best, to those who are trusting Him, and living as He would have them live, He extends an awesome amount of wing coverage.

So?  Make sure that your fear is the type based in awe.  Make it a factor of reference, respect, and love.  God’s grace waits to be applied to your life.  Rejoice.
