An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Getting Personal

Psalm 96:2 (KJV) Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day.

(Proverbs 16 also read)

I was reading Psalms in the LSB and I noticed a difference between it and the other translations.  The LSB has taken the places where the Hebrew word Yahweh is used, and actually transliterated into the English, instead of using the LORD.  As I was looking at the two ways of translating it, I got this feeling that using the Hebrew and dropping the word “the” made it much more personal.  Compare

Psalm 96:2 (LSB) Sing to Yahweh, bless His name; Proclaim good news of His salvation from day to day.
Picture if I were talking about my firstborn and always talked about “the son.”  That might be OK when I was talking to someone else but if I were addressing him, I would want to just simply say, “Son.”

So?  Our God is not only real, but He is a personal God.  He wants to speak to us and He listens to us.  Rejoice in that on this glorious day.
