An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Pick a Card

Proverbs 3:33 (KJV) The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.

This chapter in Proverbs is loaded with the reality of getting rewards for our actions and our choices expressed in many different ways.  You could preach a sermon on tithing, you could teach about creation, you could talk about the blessings of wisdom and foolishness of sin.  There are all kinds of contrast here.

I finally settled on this first because it is a way in which we can look at the year to come and make decisions now about what we expect from this year.  He talks hear about your “house” or later in the verse “habitation”.  What this means is not just your building, but your family, your friends, and possibly even your neighborhood.  What kind of influence is going to be radiating from you?

So?  When we begin the year is a bit arbitrary, but for most of us it’s the time to stop, think, and plan.  Why not plan for a year of being blessed by God by living a life that blesses him?
