Proverbs 6:23 (KJV) For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
I have numerous flashlights and illuminating devices spread around my room and the house. By illuminating devices, I refer to things I have placed on the wall that automatically light up at night when I walk by. They are utilitarian devices that are there for when they are needed. That should be one of the roles of God’s commandments in our lives.
What provides a bit of fun for us is that when my grandchildren come over they think that the flashlight is something that you shine around the room in the middle of the day. They will pick up my solar powered flashlights and run around the house with them turned on for the entire time they’re here. Since they are solar powered and solar recharged, I don’t care. If I were paying for batteries it would be a different story. But they have no idea of what they’re actually for. Actually, they do know. They just don’t care. They misuse them in the spirit of fun.
So? Misusing things in the spirit of fun is no big deal if it’s a solar powered flashlight. It can be eternity changing when it comes to the commandments of God. They are given to us for a reason, and it’s not just to shine around in superfluous situations. Consider the guidance God has given us and do your best to follow.
