Hidden Grace

Proverbs 22:1 (KJV) A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

When I first started looking at this verse, and noticed the word “favor” as used in the KJV, I thought I was going to find the Hebrew chesed which means “loving kindness”.  That is one of my favorite concepts in the Old Testament.  At first, I was disappointed because it was a different Hebrew word.  But then I recognized that Hebrew word as the Old Testament equivalent of “grace”.

It’s an interesting way of expressing the idea of grace.  The Hebrew word here is translating as “favor” and it’s most common translation in the KJV is “grace”.  But when you put it together, I’ve never seen these two ideas in the same verse, or at least noticed them.

So?  Grace is present through the entire Bible.  God’s love is moving and active and touching upon every aspect of our lives.  What a reason to rejoice.
